Tanbark began production of molded fiber packaging products in Saco last week. The products use fibers from Maine and Canadian pulp mills to create a local and sustainable alternative for a variety of uses, including food packaging.

Abbie Anderson, a member of this year’s graduating class at the University of New England, is hoping to help students on college campuses foster community with an app called Clyk.

The app, which Anderson aims to launch this fall, focuses on building connections and fostering meaningful conversations and experiences between college students.

News outlets around the country have featured the Climate Reanalyzer tool from the University of Maine’s Climate Change Institute as the world has seen record high mean temperatures over the last week.

The tool, which is part of CCI’s suite of climate data, visualizes daily mean temperature compared to each year since 1979.

Vertical Harvest of Wyoming has announced that their new Westbrook urban farming venture has hit the halfway point of construction.

The new four-story facility will grow microgreens, lettuce, and other crops year-round. They’ll distribute produce to hospitals, schools, and supermarkets, and the location will also offer an opportunity for people to buy at the source.

Robb Report profiles founder and president Kyle Rancourt of outdoor apparel company Pinebury, which creates Maine-inspired products with natural materials and a focus of minimal design and earth tones.

The brand’s cycling jerseys and performance tees are made from a blend of merino wool and nylon from Massachusetts, and their wool-blend socks and arm warmers are made in North Carolina.

Northport’s The Scone Goddess has cooked up a new scone mix featuring Maine Grains organic flour, white chocolate, lemon, and local lavender from Glendarragh Farm in Appleton.

The new Savor Maine Lavender Lemon Cream Premium mix was created in partnership with First National Bank, and all proceeds will benefit the Belfast Soup Kitchen.

Eliot, Maine-based Sweet Dirt has announced a new line of THC seltzers, lemonades, and other beverages infused with cannabis from the company’s southern Maine campus. The company partnered with The Drinkable Co. to bring the beverages to life.

IDEXX has introduced its new Cystatin B test, which helps veterinarians diagnose kidney injury. Cases resulting from injuries make up a large part of kidney-related vet visits, but the symptoms can be tough to diagnose. The company plans to start running tests later this year.

Maine Space 2030 provides information about Maine’s developing role as a (literal) launchpad for orbital and suborbital space missions for the future. Dove Tail Bats in the town of Shirley showcased a remote bat scanner that can send details of an existing bat to the company’s factory to be reproduced with Maine birch or maple. Newfangled Solutions of Livermore Falls developed the system, which was unveiled at Portland’s Hadlock Field.
